E-Business banda larga

Apenas 5,2% da população brasileira tem acesso a banda larga, segundo o Ministério do Planejamento.

Parte da oportunidade de crescimento do varejo no futuro passa pela internet. Mas, para que o Brasil tenha taxas importantes de volume financeiro no e-business, a penetração da banda larga precisa melhorar muito.

O desafio está em ofertar a tecnologia para localidades que não terão rentabilidade para os donos da infraestrutura, acesso e "last mile".

Os grandes centros já tem as facilidades e sempre receberão investimentos. O "ROI" é tranquilo. Mas no sertão do Acre a história é um pouco diferente.

Entram as políticas públicas para a universalização do acesso. Sim, o governo precisa ajudar de alguma forma.

Agora, esse papo de uma nova estatal feita do espólio da Eletronet e também da fibra da Telebrás é preocupante. O sistema de telecomunicações já foi privatizado e a "BrasilNET" é um grande oportunismo.

A minha sugestão é que a infra possa ser franqueada para os interessados com facilidade tributárias e de investimento: BNDES.
Não pode valer para as teles e TVs a cabo já existentes.

Desta forma teremos novos "players", mais competitividade, empregos e a função social sendo alcançada.

O Obama é mentira




Lie to me babe!

Como dito em abril, o Obama é assim: tipo um Collor.

Vamos contabilizar um pouco das suas ações ou falta delas:
  1. Demorou para ajudar os bancos no governo de transição.
  2. Acabou com o encontro de Copenhage.
  3. Levou toco da China.
  4. Não acabou com a base de Guantánamo no tempo prometido.
  5. "Passou" a reforma médica no congresso.....
Eu não tenho muito a ver com o Obama. Mas, seus passos afetam a economia em Vera Cruz e também em Guam.

Com a sua aprovação hoje beirando os 50%, o seu governo não vai acabar muito bem. Além disso, a globalização dele chama-se China, "only".

Vamos poluindo.

Well, why don’t you take a break for a few minutes and sharpen the saw?


Stephen Covey, in his book “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” calls the final habit, habit 7 “Sharpening the Saw”. Habit 7 is “the habit that makes all the others possible”. Stephen tells the following parable that pretty much sums up the principle. 


Suppose you were to come upon someone in the woods working feverishly to saw down a tree.

 

“What are you doing?” you ask.


“Can’t you see?” comes the impatient reply. “I’m sawing down this tree.”


“You look exhausted!” you exclaim. “How long have you been at it?”


“Over five hours,” he returns, “and I’m beat! This is hard work.”


“Well, why don’t you take a break for a few minutes and sharpen the saw?” you inquire. “I’m sure it would go a lot faster.”


“I don’t have time to sharpen the saw,” the man says emphatically. “I’m too busy sawing!”

Eyeing IPO, Facebook Board Rejects Funding At $4 Billion Valuation

(alleyinsider.com) -- Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his board met yesterday to discuss and eventually reject two funding offers for the company -- one at a $4 billion and one at $2 billion, according to reports fromVentureBeat and TechCrunch.

A source close to Facebook tells us the company values itself closer to $5 billion.

Ever since a report surfaced at BusinessWeek that Facebook intended to engage in vendor-financing for new equipment, there's been speculation that the company is suddenly cash-strapped.

That's not the case, sources tell VentureBeat, which reports Facebook's still has $200 million in cash.

In addition, a source close to Facebook recently offered us these details on the company's finances:

  • Facebook's revenue is growing 70% from where it was last year. (We believe last year's revenue was about $365 million, so assuming some slowdown through the year, this would put 2009 revenue at $500 million-ish)
  • The company has generated positive EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) since August of 2007.
  • The company expects to start generating cash from operations ("Operationally cash-flow positive including cap-ex") at some point during 2010.

VC Fred Wilson suggests we're getting this sudden flood of information about Facebook's finances because the company is preparing for an IPO.

Say what you will about Facebook, and a lot of people are trashing the company these days, it has 200mm users worldwide. It is building the social graph of the world. It is a very valuable and important asset. And apparently it is profitable.

It is also essentially a public company now. There is a market in their shares. The company's basic financial information is available for our consumption and analysis. And we even are getting to see it's financing play out publicly.

I suspect that Facebook is seriously considering doing what Google did and biting the bullet and going public. The IPO market is coming back (that's my gut). And at this point, there isn't much cost (other than finacial costs of being public) that Facebook isn't already paying.

France Rejects Plan to Curb Internet Piracy

In what the French government denounced as a “sad comedy,” lawmakers on Thursday rejected President Nicolas Sarkozy’s plan to bolster the movie and music industries by cutting off the Internet connections of persistent copyright pirates.

The surprise outcome delayed, but may not kill, the most far-reaching initiative by any government in the battle against unauthorized file-sharing. It is also a major embarrassment for Mr. Sarkozy, who has rallied sufficient legislative support for other measures popular with French media companies, like phasing out advertising on public television.

Until Thursday afternoon, the anti-piracy plan appeared on track for passage in the National Assembly, after having been approved by the other house of Parliament, the Senate. A committee of members of both chambers had worked out differences this week.

But the measure, while supported by many members of the French cultural establishment, had always been unpopular with ordinary voters. File-sharing is widespread in France, where legitimate online services like Apple’s iTunes music store have never caught on to the extent that they have in the United States.

Rather than stick their political necks out, many members of the 577-member National Assembly, even those in Sarkozy’s party, decided to skip the vote. With only a handful of hard-core supporters in the room, apparently confident of passage, the measure was put to a vote by a show of hands.

At the last minute, several members of the opposition Socialist Party rushed in to vote against the plan, according to Christine Albanel, the culture minister, in what she called a “cynical maneuver by the opposition.” The bill was rejected, 21-15.

Jérémie Zimmermann, director of La Quadrature du Net, an Internet advocacy group in Paris, described the outcome as “a huge political blow” for Mr. Sarkozy and Ms. Albanel. “It’s a victory for the citizens and the civil liberties over the corporate interests,” Mr. Zimmermann added.

While film studios and record companies blame piracy for billions of euros in lost sales, critics said Mr. Sarkozy’s plan would violate Internet users’ rights and might have been unworkable.

Under the proposal, the music and movie industries would be allowed to analyze the downloads of individual Internet users to look for unauthorized sharing of movies and music, and to report violations to a newly created, government-run agency. The agency would send warning letters to violators; after the third letter, the Internet service provider would be required to sever service.

Patrick Bloche, a Socialist member of the National Assembly who has led opposition to the Sarkozy proposal, said the plan was “politically dead.”

“This effort to intimidate 18 million French Internet users, the vote today showed, will not succeed,” he said.

Under France’s parliamentary system, it is unusual for a government initiative to be voted down. According to the newspaper Le Figaro, it was the first time that a bill worked out in a joint committee of Parliament had been rejected.

But French lawmakers have sometimes entertained maverick approaches on media-related issues. Three years ago, members of the National Assembly discussed, but then rejected, a proposal for a “global license” for anyone to download unlimited amounts of music in return for a modest annual fee.

Sarkozy’s anti-piracy plan could still be revived, at least in its broad outlines. Ms. Albanel said in a statement that she was “determined to fight for its adoption by the two chambers when the bill is debated anew, by the end of the month.”

The progress of the bill was being followed closely outside France because other governments, under pressure from the entertainment industry, have also been considering more aggressive laws against piracy. In South Korea, for example, the government this month introduced a measure that would allow it to shut down online message boards that had repeatedly ignored warnings to remove pirated content.

Britain, meanwhile, has been pushing Internet providers and content companies to come up with a solution on their own, without requiring legislation — so far, to no avail. In New Zealand, the government recently suspended a law requiring Internet service providers to cut off copyright pirates because the I.S.P.’s and content owners could not agree on how to enforce it.

“The ‘three strikes’ policy is a highly politically charged and sensitive issue that triggers extreme reactions on both sides of the debate,” said Mark Mulligan, an analyst at Forrester Research. The vote in Paris “illustrates the risks associated with business issues being subject to political concerns.”

While many Socialists have long opposed the idea of cutting off Internet users, Mr. Sarkozy and Ms. Albanel also apparently failed to persuade some party lawmakers to come into line.

Hervé Rony, director general of S.N.E.P., a trade group for French record companies, said he thought a revived proposal, removing the requirement for payment to continue during the cutoff period, could win support from lawmakers.

“Of course, we are very disappointed,” he said. “But it is probably just a political maneuver. It will take some weeks more, and that’s a problem — the more we wait, the more the people download.”

Basta segmentar e "alimentar" a comunidade.

Uma comunidade online forte possibilita a empresa novos negócios, audiência fixa para promoções e campanhas e também economia em pesquisa.

A Nestle do Brasil iria fazer uma pesquisa sobre a possibilidade do Deditos. Encontrou no orkut uma comunidade de 500.000 pessoas pedindo a volta do biscoito.

“Matter”: Marketing by sending people free stuff

Britain’s Royal Mail is trying something new with direct mail: sending people a box of free stuff. Called “Matter”, the first one went out in mid-December to 30,000 people who had signed up to receive it. The box contained books, DVDs, CDs, shower products, a candybar, a pre-paid SIM card and a few other goodies.

The idea is that you try them, maybe give some to your friends, tell people about the one you like and otherwise interact with products in a way that’s more interesting than traditional direct-mail advertising.

The project was a collaboration with Tim Milne, who started the arts collectiveArtomatic. He says that the challenge so far has been getting advertisers to look past traditional direct mail. He told me:

“I've long believed that printed matter will gain new value in a digital world as everyone begins to crave the more physical / tactile / emotional nature of printed stuff.

Matter is revealing some interesting, unexpected behaviours. Matter is very social–people take the items (and sometimes the whole box) to work, to the pub and tell their friends and family about the cool things
they'd been sent. It fact, even though it's a physical medium, it behaves more like a digital channel.

The underlying concept–that if you give people nice things they'll better towards you is certainly true. What we're beginning to discover is how the simple act giving people something nice triggers a whole range of responses–using the objects, telling their friends and telling us what they think.”

Omer Goldman, has had to confront the values of her own family. She is the daughter of the former deputy head of Mossad, the Israeli intelligence service and who is still considered one of the most powerful men in the Israeli security system. Omer, without her father’s permission visited a Palestinian town in the West Bank and at a check-point, alongside Palestinians, her supposed enemies, was fired upon by Israeli soldiers, “We were sitting by the roadside talking and soldiers came along and after a few seconds they received an order and fired gas grenades and rubber bullets at us. Then it struck me, to my astonishment, that the soldiers were following an order without thinking. For the first time in my life, an Israeli soldier raised his weapon and fired at me.”

Although, not surprisingly, her father does not support her decision to refuse, he still supports her as a daughter. “He and I have very similar characters. I, too, fight to the end for what I believe in. But we are opposites ideologically.”

In her declaration of refusal she stated:

“I refuse to enlist in the Israeli military. I shall not be part of an army that needlessly implements a violent policy and violates the most basic human rights on a daily basis.

Like most of my peers, I too have not dared to question the ethics of the Israeli military. But when I visited the Occupied Territories I realized I see a completely different reality, a violent, oppressive, extreme reality that must be ended.
